What is the Level 2 BTEC First Certificate in Performing Arts?
The qualification will provide you with a broad foundation in three main aspects of performance: acting, dance and music. The understanding and skills you acquire will help enable you to proceed into further training or education, or to consider employment in the performing arts world.
The qualification aims to give you an understanding of what a career in the performing arts world can entail, from business to performance, and it enables both a practical and theoretical exploration of the various elements of performance.
The course consists of one core unit plus a choice of specialist units totalling 180 guided learning hours. Depending on your programme of study, the structure of the course allows you to focus on your talents and interests and explore new areas, such as producing a musical recording, performing scripted plays or contemporary dance.
Where will this Qualification take me?
Following completion of the BTEC First Certificate in Performing Arts, successful candidates may be able to enter into employment, at a junior level, in such careers as an entertainer, actor or stage manager.
The achievement of the BTEC First Certificate has the equivalence of 2 GCSEs graded A* - C.
In order to be considered for this course you should have the interest and potential to succeed in achieving the qualification and ideally be able to show you have a standard of literacy, numeracy and general education equivalent to four GCSEs graded D - G.
Course Overview
Pupils will continue working on three units from year 10. The focus of this year in performance whether Drama or Musical. This group will participate in producing a musical considering, lighting, sound technology, set design, costume performing and music and marketing and advertising.
In addition to the above curriculum the department offers a whole host of extra- curricular activities ranging from Rock school band, Choir, individual instrumental tuition, keyboard club and solo singing rehearsal, all pupils across the school are invited to attend.
