Careers
Your Future
You are at the beginning of another important step concerning your future. It is a good time to ask yourself questions such as:
- Do I wish to continue my studies beyond school and then progress to College or University?
- In what type of employment would I be happy?
The National Curriculum will ensure that you experience a balanced programme of study over the next two years. With this in mind do not worry unduly if you cannot answer the above questions. It is quite normal for students of your age to be unsure at this stage.
The importance of Years 10 & 11 is not just good exam results. Most employers, colleges and all the Services ask the school to report not only on your school work, but also your personal qualities of discipline, temperament, enthusiasm, appearance, attendance and punctuality. Whenever a reference is required, all teachers who know you are consulted , so it is up to you to make sure that your teachers see the best side of your character. Remember, every day you spend at school you are writing your own reference.

Visits to Universities, Colleges of Further Education and to Support Careers with the Armed forces
We have two Connexions Advisers based in the academy 4 days per week. Students can make appointments to meet with them and we ensure that every child in Year 11 has at least one meeting with them to create an Action Plan supporting Post 16 progression. The Connexions advisers also work closely with the pastoral team and Head of Learning Support to ensure any vulnerable students or those with additional needs are fully supported through their transition into Further Education or similar.
Connexions Advisers also run group sessions in Year 9 and take the year group assemblies in Year 10 and 11 to offer specialist and up-to-date information. Part-time jobs and apprenticeship vacancies are also published in the Infozone.
