Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE)

Student writingAll students will follow a course of lessons timetabled twice a week.

The Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE) is an exciting course which aims to prepare the individual to take his/her place as a socially responsible member of society by developing skills, knowledge, attitudes and competencies necessary for adult and working life. Students complete a series of challenges in one of the five areas listed below and create a portfolio of evidence for external moderation at the end of the course to achieve either Level 2 (GCSE Grade B) or Level 1 (GCSE Grade E).

The bulk of the course is delivered by a core team of teachers, with many of the challenges planned and delivered in partnership with outside agencies. It also provides a foundation for Post 16 education and training and encourages independent learning.

CoPE successfully links 5 compulsory areas of study as required by the National Curriculum.

The course covers:

  • Personal, social and health education
  • Enterprise education
  • Religious education
  • Careers education, guidance and work related learning
  • Citizenship and global responsibilities
