Humanities
'Our vision is to widen the horizons of our students, to enable them to value and understand peoples' diversity, past and culture, to increase their awareness and understanding of themselves, their own community and wider global community.'
The Humanities department at The Hereford Academy teaches:
- Religious Studies
- History
- Geography
- Horticulture
Through experiencing our curriculum, we aim to increase the self-confidence and skills of our students, to enhance their opportunities to study at FE, of employment and to become rounded, independent, understanding and tolerant members of society.
At Key Stage 3 students will learn about a range of topics and practise skills linked to the specific subject areas as well as more general skills for life - PLTS (Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills).
A personalised approach, aiming to match learning to students' needs and interests has been adopted by the Curriculum Area, with the opportunity for students to progress at their own rate regardless of age.
The department is staffed by experienced specialist teachers, who employ a wide variety of teaching methods and activities, including a variety of off-site visits, to appeal to different learning styles, so enabling all students to actively engage in the curriculum and work towards becoming independent learners.
