Humanities

'Our vision is to widen the horizons of our students, to enable them to value and understand peoples' diversity, past and culture, to increase their awareness and understanding of themselves, their own community and wider global community.'

At KS4 The Humanities department at The Hereford Academy currently teaches:

  • Religious Studies
  • History
  • Geography

Through experiencing our curriculum, we aim to increase the self-confidence and skills of our students, to enhance their opportunities to study at FE, of employment and to become rounded, independent, understanding and tolerant members of society.

The department is staffed by experienced specialist teachers, who employ a wide variety of teaching methods and activities, including off-site visits, to appeal to different learning styles, so enabling all students to actively engage in the curriculum and work towards becoming independent learners.

Students can opt to take History and Geography through Humanities, and Religious Studies as part of their Lifelong Learning Programme.

  • History: Students study World War 1, Britain 1906-1918, The Cold War 1945-1900.(OCR)
  • Geography: Rivers and Coasts, Population and Settlement, Natural Hazards, Economic Development, Field Study. (WJEC)
  • Religious Studies: Religion and Ethics. (WJEC)
