Information & Communication Technology (ICT)

The ICT CA has 3 full time members of staff and provides a variety of courses ranging from year 7 to year 13. ICT at The Hereford Academy is taught by subject specialists in one of three computer suites. Each child has individual access to a PC during their ICT lesson and all rooms are equipped with an interactive white board. Printing facilities are supplied in both colour and B/W and students have controlled access to the internet and email.

E-safety is a high priority and all communications / internet access is carefully monitored both electronically and by staff.

The ICT department has been at the forefront of developing the school's Virtual learning Environment (VLE) which enables every student to access their work from home via the internet.

How can I help my Child?

  • It is always an advantage to have access ICT facilities outside lessons students need it. An ICT room is available for all our students during Study and Skills club on a Tuesday and Wednesday after school.
  • Encourage your child to use ICT whenever they can even if its programming the video, microwave, DVD player, Ipod - The possibilities are endless.
  • Encourage your child to research documents and to look at how professional designers work. For example a visit to the local supermarket to look at some leaflets is essential when we are studying desktop publishing.
  • If you have it, encourage the use of email contact with school both to subject teachers and form tutors. It can make contact between students, parents and teachers easier and quicker.
