Business Studies Mrs S Williams

If you are interested in the world we work in, how businesses operate and what you need to do to be successful in the work place (including how to make money!) then the courses delivered in this subject area will be of interest to you

In Business we teach at both levels, KS4 and KS5 (Post 16).  At KS4 we currently offer BTEC Level 2 in Business and GCSE in Business Studies, and at Post 16 we deliver the BTEC National Subsidiary Diploma in Business Management (equivalent to one A level)

The GCSE is new to the curriculum and is taught in the classroom with opportunities for visits to workplaces to see theory being taught put into practice.  The course itself consists of one exam and a controlled assessment being completed.

The BTEC in Business has been taught very successfully over the last 7 years with current pass rates in excess of 94%.  This course is delivered via practical assignments which cover a variety of topics such as Starting up a Small Business, Working in Groups and The Business Environment.  Lessons give the students opportunities to gain practical experience in the topics they are covering.  All assessments are done via continuous assessment throughout the course with no end exams.

At KS5 we offer the Subsidiary Diploma in Business Management where students, in addition to building on basic business knowledge, get the opportunity to organise and manage events in school e.g. careers events which gives them key practical experience when applying for jobs or university.

I believe that we are successful as a department because we care about the students - units for completion are chosen based on the interests of the students taking them, not on what we want to deliver and we tailor our courses delivery methods to suit the needs of our learners.

Visits take place throughout the course, including trips to Big Pit (KS4), shopping centres and London (KS5).

Further information on the courses we run can be found at the websites below, along with details of other websites which might be useful for learners studies.
