Curriculum Area vision and general information about the CA e.g. successes and strengths

The aim of RE is to engage everyone in studying the BIG QUESTIONS in life, including religious and non-religious answers, so that we can develop the understanding and skills needed to appreciate and evaluate a variety of answers to these questions, and to develop informed answers of our own.

 

KS3 provision summary e.g. topics covered, links to SOW/overviews and homework

In KS3 pupils cover themes related to life’s big questions from the perspective of a variety of worldviews. Units include: How can people express the spiritual through the arts? What was so radical about Jesus? What is rewarding and challenging about being a teenage Muslim in Britain today? Is death the end and does it matter? What can we learn from the Holocaust? What rights should animals have?

KS4 provision summary e.g. topics covered, links to SOW/overviews and homework

In KS4, but starting in year 9, pupils study Eduqas / WJEC GCSE RS. Units include: Christian Beliefs And Practices, Islamic Beliefs And Practices, Issues Of Relationships, Issues Of Life And Death, Issues Of Good And Evil, and Issues Of Human Rights.

KS5 provision if relevant

Extra-curricular activities

Philosophy through Film:

Watch films or documentaries that relate to ethical and philosophical question. Have a chat about the issues that come up. Consider Questions like:

What is evil?

What is a person?

Is the world real or an illusion?

Do we really have freewill?

And other topics suggested by YOU!
