The SSCo Programme

The SSCo programme has been run for the past six years. Mr Littlewood is the current SSCo who is beginning his forth year in the post.
The programme is designed to help to improve the quality of PE delivered in the feeder primaries and to provide greater variety and opportunities both in the curriculum and out of hours learning. The six primary schools in the Academy cluster are St Martins, Blackmarston, Riverside, Holme Lacy, Marlbrook and Little Dewchurch.

Staff have the opportunities to team teach and have inset in a wide range of activities and to attend training where possible as requested. The Primary Link Teachers meet every half term with the Sports Coordinator to receive information, discus ideas or any problems. Equipment has been provided that is used during lessons and is also used to enable the pupils to take part in meaningful play that improves their basic skills.

Festivals are run for the primaries in basketball, tag rugby, football and athletics. These provide the pathway for winning teams to progress to the Partnership Competitions. Multi Skills / Special Sports are held at all age groups in order for the less able students to experience competition and working as part of a team.
The programme provides the Academy students who are studying BTEC, CSLA and JSLA with numerous leadership opportunities. They go into the primaries to take groups and also groups of primary pupils have been brought to the Academy to be taught by our students in football, gymnastics and trampolining.
The programme has helped to build stronger links between the feeder primaries and the Academy and made the transition from primary to secondary school less arduous for many students.
