Free Computers entitlement

You may have heard or read something recently in the papers or on the TV or radio about a new grant that will provide a free computer and a year's free internet access to some children. Below is some infomation to help you find out if you qualify for this and how to go about ordering your free computer.

Is there one for you?

If you are a parent or guardian responsible for and living with a child in years 3 to 9, and you receive at least one of these:
- Free School Meals for your child
- Income Support
- Income Based Jobseekers Allowance
- Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit) and an income of less than £16,040 per year
- Guaranteed Pension Credit
- Income Related Employment Support Allowance
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act
Then you will probably get one.

What you need to do...

If you think you might qualify then call 0333 200 1004. After answering a few simple questions to make sure that you do qualify, you will be sent an application form. Fill it in and return it (if you need any help, please do not hesitate to contact us).

Then what happens?

If you are successful you will be sent a prepaid credit card which you can take to one of several shops (they will tell you which ones). You will then be able to use your card to pay for your computer. There will be no cost to you. The shop will have a very small number of packages that have been specially put together to support your child and advice will be available to help you choose. You will not need to know anything about computers to make your choice - it will be simple.

That's it! There is no catch!
If you need any help to complete the application form, or on which computer will be best for your child, please call in at school and we will be delighted to help you.

If you already have access to the Internet you can find out more by visiting www.homeaccess.org.uk

What if you don't qualify?

The packages that have been put together for this grant are available for anyone to purchase - either as complete packages (£528), computer only (£400), or internet only (£128). The advantage is that the packages have been put together specifically for the purpose and represent good value for money (a very good free software package is also included).
