There are six compulsory "core" units including units on scientific practical techniques and conducting a scientific investigation together with a supporting module in the application of numbers.
There are also six further specialist units provisionally including:
- Forensic Photography
- Forensic evidence collection and analysis
- Traffic accident investigation
- Medical physics techniques
- Using science in the work place
- Chemical laboratory techniques
This course is very practical in nature together with supporting theoretical background, with as much reference to current and recent cases as possible. You will be taught in a variety of ways; however laboratory work is an important aspect of the course. Individual study will be required outside formal lessons
Performing well in this course could give you access to degree courses in Science, Forensic Science, or almost any Analytical Chemistry or Biosciences field as well as related areas like Criminology or Criminal Psychology.
Alternatively you will be well qualified to enter a career as a Science Technician in a number of different science disciplines or within the Forensic Science Service.
