This course offers you the opportunity to develop your skills in three areas; health, social care and playwork and there is no need to have studied any of these subjects previously.

The BTEC National Award in Health and Social Care provides knowledge and is a practical work related course in which students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on real work placements. In addition, you can achieve an NVQ in Playwork if you wish to work specifically with children in a practical playwork setting.

A BTEC National Award is equivalent to 1 A level. Points awarded count towards UCAS if you are thinking of continuing with education or looking to start again.

A Pass is worth 40 UCAS points
A Merit is worth 80 UCAS points, and
A Distinction is worth 120 UCAS points

Whilst completing the course you can expect to learn a variety of new skills, some of which may lead to additional qualification e.g. First Aid. You can also expect to visit a variety of work placements to see what you are learning put into practice.

Course Structure

The National Award in Health and Social Care comprises three core units and specialist units for a combined total of 360 guided learning hours.

  • Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care
  • Health, Safety and Security in Health and Social Care
  • NVQ Playwork
  • Playwork Practice
  • Health and Safety in playwork settings
