Our Learning Programmes

We want to give our Post 16 students the opportunity to individualise their learning pathway. This includes choosing subjects which individual students are interested in, enjoy, that they are good at and that prepare them for working life in the 21st Century.

We offer:

  • BTEC and OCR National Awards and Certificates at Level 3
  • AS/A2 subject
  • NVQs
  • Other professional programmes at Level 2
  • GCSEs

Students can combine different types of courses to suit their individual skills and talents.

Enrichment

We also offer Post 16 students opportunities to enrich their education. Employers and universities increasingly recognise that students do more than just study! This is provided in a number of ways:

Through self-management:

Encouraging students to develop the ability to make independent decisions - the School Council and Student Council are both important in this process. Here they are encouraged to discuss issues and make recommendations for the Director of Post16 and the Senior Leadership Team

Through extra-curricular activities:

  • Languages e.g. Arabic
  • The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
  • Sporting Activities i.e. football coaching, inter-house competitions
  • Community Sports Leaders Awards
  • Study visits and field trips
  • Professional beauty courses
  • Art Create and Make
  • Music
  • Community activities
  • Driving Theory

Dress Code

All students are expected to meet The Hereford Academy's standard of smart dress that would be appropriate for business and professional studies.
For this reason, all students wear a tailored business suit with black shirt and academy tie (men) or scarf (women).

Some specialised uniforms for particular practical courses will be provided, for example tunics and tracksuits
