For students to really enjoy the challenge of Mathematics. For every student to make continual progress and achieve a qualification that will enable them to take the next step with education / training. Students to experience success at Mathematics, be willing to take risks in order to further improve. Students to reflect on their own strengths and weaknesses and have high expectations of themselves.

KS3 provision summary e.g. topics covered, links to SOW/overviews and homework

  • Students will follow a differentiated Mathematics curriculum that will enable ALL students to experience success and make progress in their learning. We will follow the Collins KS3 curriculum and students will be assessed at the end of each half term. This will enable students and parents to see progress and areas of strength and weakness.
  • ALL students will be expected to complete a weekly Mathematics homework using Mymaths and students will be offered regular support sessions at lunchtime with this to ensure that nobody gets left behind.
  • ALL students will be expected to be equipped to learn and show respect to the Mathematics environment and other students.
  • Problem solving activities will be built into the schemes to develop these essential skills for GCSE.
  • Students will be expected to keep neat and tidy exercise books that they can be proud of and reflects their hard work and commitment to the subject.
  • ALL students will be encouraged to be the best that they can be.

 

KS4 provision summary e.g. topics covered, links to SOW/overviews and homework

  • Students at KS4 will build on the KS3 curriculum and follow a 2 year GCSE course that will be differentiated into Higher and Foundation Tiers.
  • Students will have unit tests after each topic to test for understanding, support revision skills, and develop a confidence in their Mathematics. Parents will be regularly informed of the progress of these.
  • ALL students will be expected to complete a weekly Mymaths homework task and support will be offered with this.
  • The Maths department will be using Maths Watch and Maths Genie as revision tools and students will be provided with a revision guide to support their learning at home.
  • Students will be following the Pearson resources, and a new Scheme of work that will enable them to make progress and achieve good GCSE grades that will enable them to take the next steps post 16.
  • Students will be expected to keep neat and tidy exercise books that they can be proud of and can be used to support revision and exam preparation.
  • Students will be expected to be equipped to learn in lessons and have their own calculators, that they can also use for homework and revision. (The department recommends the CASIO FX83 – and these will be available for a reduced price in the department)
