Due to weather issues we have a partial closure today. We are closed to Y8 and Y9 but open for all other year groups. Y8 and Y9 should access their work online in the usual way. We will be open as normal tomorrow.

• Cribbs Causeway Trip

  Cribbs Causeway trip is a great success and on their way home. However, Y11 bus has broken down. We are buying the Y11 students a burger to keep them going and will update you as soon as we can. 

• DofE Certificate

  THA was proud to receive their DofE certificate this week. Our students spent a combined 806 hours volunteering between 1st April 2023 and 31st March 2024. 

   

  A huge congratulations to our students for all their hard work and many thanks to Miss Owen and any other staff members who have given up their own time to help with the DofE events. 

  

• 1st FPL Champion!

  Congratulations to Mr Pearce, who has won THA’s first Fantasy Premier League. FPL is the official free-to-play fantasy football game of the English Premier League, and 29 teams entered the THA league, which remained competitive until the very last week.

   

  Mr Wilkinson finished in second place, whilst Mr Taylor finished in third. Headon H & Dan S completed the top 5 rankings. Congrats to Cain D, Aston W and Joe S, who also finished in the Top 10 rankings.

   

  Mr Pearce said following his victory “I am delighted to be The Academy's first ever FPL champion, and I love that this school gets involved with fun activities such as these, that students and staff can both get involved in."

   

  Mr Pearce accepted the trophy last week from Mr Taylor, who oversaw the league, but said that he doesn’t want the prize and would rather it be won by a student next year. Mr Taylor has already confirmed plans for another THA FPL league for next season, with plans for awards such as ‘Manager of the Month’ and more prizes to be won.

  

• Languages in the Sporting World

  Last week, Year 9 pupils had an assembly on 'Languages in the sporting world' led by Steve Eadon from Mingalaba. 30 pupils then took part in a special workshop where they learnt to use their German skills to describe a football match. It was wonderful to see our pupils so engaged, and also to hear the conversations and questions about how they can use their language skills in their future careers.

• Annual Academy Carol Service

  Mr Price would like to inform you of our annual Christmas Carol Service, at St. Martin's Church on Tuesday 12^th December 2023. The Herford Church of England Academy choir will be singing carols alongside two of our GCSE Music student soloists.   

  We would also like to welcome family and friends to join us for the service, which will be sure to get you into the spirit of Christmas. There is no charge, and no tickets are required. The Service starts at 6.00pm and will finish no later than 7pm. There will also be a retiring collection taken in aid of The Hereford Academy's chosen charities for those who are able to contribute.

• Science Show Extravaganza

  On 29th Nov, we were lucky enough to receive a visit from the Royal Institution who delivered two 'Energy Live' sessions for our Year 7 - 10 students.
  
  We were then joined by staff from St Mary's High School for some CPD after school, looking at context and debates in science lessons.
  
  In the evening the NI delivered a Community Show for our school and several Herefordshire Primary Schools about Rocket Science.
