Attendance

If your child is absent from school please telephone the Attendance Team

on 01432 373570 option 3 or 01432 373588

by 9am each day of absence.

Parents are responsible for the following:

  1. Contacting school every morning before 9am of any reason for absence

  2. It is important you contact school every morning to ensure the whereabouts of your child is known to us and a reason for their absence is provided

  3. Failure to provide reason for absence may result in the absences being unauthorised and further actions considered

  4. Please make sure your child arrives on time

  5. Prior notice of any medical appointments is needed and evidence of this must be provided (appointment cards/letters) These should be made out of school hours where possible

Rationale:

Students need to attend every day if they are to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them. The Hereford Academy has high expectations for attendance and punctuality.

Every student should attend every day that they are required to attend. The Hereford Academy is committed to providing an education of the highest standard for all its pupils and recognises this can only be achieved by supporting and promoting excellent school attendance.

This is based on the belief that only by attending school every day will students be able to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them.

High attainment and consistent, positive progress are dependent on good attendance.

Recording attendance:

Registration

  • Students must arrive punctually at 8.45am each morning, registers close at 9.30am. Students arriving after 8.45am but before 9.30am will be coded as L, late before the register closes. Students arriving late must enter school via the main reception area, where the time and reason for their lateness will be recorded.
  • Class registers will remain open until 9.30am. Any pupil arriving after this time will be recorded as a U code late after the register has closed.  This is an unauthorised absence. Parents or carers will be asked to explain persistent lateness before or after registration closure and required to ensure improvements are made to their child’s punctuality. Afternoon registration session is at 12.20pm.
  • If a student is unfit for school, parents or carers are asked to contact the school on each day of absence by 9am. If a student is absent at morning registration and no explanation has been forthcoming by the close of the school’s registers, the Attendance Officer or other staff member will contact parents/carers to establish the reason for absence.
