Primary Transition
Important Updated Information about Year 6 Transition days
Dear Parents/Carers of our new Year 7 students,
Due to the extension on COVID restrictions, the following advice has been issued by Herefordshire Secondary Headteachers Association with regards to transition:
'Following the government announcement on Monday, DFE advice, and advice from the Herefordshire Outbreak Hub, Herefordshire Secondary Schools will cancel the Y6 Day scheduled for Thursday 8 July'
In view of this, we are sadly now also going to cancel the additional two days (6th and 9th July). We had waited as long as possible to see if information was forthcoming that would have made these days possible, however with our Years 7-10 onsite at the same time, it is not feasible to maintain primary bubbles and run transition days.
As you know, we are offering 5 days of summer school to all of our new students in August (23rd-27th) and therefore will extend the deadline for parents to take up the offer of summer school, to give them a chance to sign up, to the 9th of July 2021. They need to contact by emailing transition@theherefordacademy.org.uk
The week we had intended to do transition days will now give the opportunity for one parent/carer and their Y6 child to come and meet their HOH and form tutors. This will be 4-5pm on different days WC 5th July 2021 according to the student's house. Letters will come out next week to Year 6 parents/carer in the week commencing 21st June 2021 informing students of their houses. The evenings are as follows:
Monday 5th Canterbury
Tuesday 6th Winchester
Wednesday 7th Salisbury
Thursday 8th Lincoln 1
Friday 9th July Lincoln 2
We had originally booked for the uniform shop and PE suppliers to be at the Y6 parents evening, however we are having to cancel this. Please refer to the fliers in the Y6 information packs to get information about purchasing uniform.
We will offer additional tours during the school day as per primary bubbles in very small groups and will also be in contact to make arrangements (where possible) for our staff to visit primary schools. It is extremely disappointing that we have had to curtail our transition offer and hope that we can do as much as possible in the circumstances to facilitate a smooth transition for our new students and their families.
