Primary Transition
Welcome to the Transition Area of our website. In this section we aim to provide most of the information you will need to support your Year 6 child and your family as they join Year 7 at The Hereford Church of England Academy.
Following a really positive Open Evening on 18th September, we now have two morning tours planned. Please use the QR code below to book for either Wednesday 24th September or Wednesday 1st October.

If you have any queries, then please do email transition@theherefordacademy.org.uk
Transition Documents 2025
House System
Each year (usually June) we send out letters to families. This is then followed in July by a Induction Evening for students and parents/carers and then an Induction Day for all Year 6 students.
A sample of previous letters (copy below for each House), shows the kind of information about both of these events and the child's new House/Form.
Appeals Timetable : Diocese of Hereford Multi-Academy Trust Appeals Timetable for allocation of places for September 2026
The proposed appeal timescales for secondary transfer and reception intake for September 2026 will be as follows.
| DATE | SECONDARY | PRIMARY |
| Allocation Day – the day emails are sent out informing parents of which school they have been allocated a place | 2 March 2026 | 16 April 2026 |
| Deadline for appeal applications (at least 20 school days) | 30 March 2026 | 15 May 2026 |
| Appeals will be heard | w/c 15 June 2026 online via Zoom | w/c 15 June 2026 online via Zoom |
Appeals lodged after these dates (late applications) will generally be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged. Appeals in respect of in-year applications will be heard within 30 school days of receipt.
If you decide to request an appeal after 25 June 2026, it may not be possible to offer an appeal date before the end of the summer term. Appeals are not held in the school holidays.
Where a place is refused the parent will be notified and will be informed of the reason why the application was refused; information about the right to appeal; the deadline for lodging an appeal and the contact details for doing so.
Appellants (the person/s lodging an appeal) will receive notification of the date, time of the appeals panel appointed to hear their appeal at least ten school days before the hearing.
The Diocese of Hereford Multi-Academy Trust is responsible for engaging a fully independent appeal panel, fully independent of the school and must do so in accordance with the School's Admission Appeals Code. These appeal hearings are carried out remotely online using Zoom. Parents will be provided with the Zoom link to access the hearing and will be able to speak directly to the panel.
After the appeal hearing you'll normally be able to find out whether your appeal has been successful the day after the appeals for the school have finished. The clerk to the appeal panel will explain how and when you can obtain the result.
At The Hereford Church of England Academy, we are very excited to be meeting our new Year 7 students, but we know that it is a big change in their lives. Have a look at this link to support your child and prepare for joining us:
